Case File 4 [Voice/Action] Pops is up to something....

[Inspector Zenigata hates Mondays. He hates Mondays after a weekend he can't freakin' remember even more. After all this time here, though, he's learned to just accept that something weird probably happened to him last weekend. It's a pretty crappy thing to accept, sure, but what choice does he have since those Malnosso punks won't show up and let him arrest them. Add to that the weirdness of that Were-Yeti incident...and you've got a cop who REALLY needs a distraction.

Regardless of the funkiness of the last few weeks, he wakes up and gets a move on. The man's got plans for today. Starting with a trip down to the shops, where he's picking up nails and a hammer, as well as various lengths of wood gathered from around town. He's got a project in mind, for the benefit of his sanity and the residents of Community House 5. The pickup process takes a few hours, so feel free to stop him or give him funny looks as he wanders between Community House 5 and the shops, whistling while he works.

After gathering supplies, the sounds of sawing, hammering, and generalized construction can be heard in the woods behind Community House #5. Zenigata is making quite a racket. After a while, he appears via the journal, saluting like any civic minded individual doing the community a service.]

Hey, anyone out there like to give me a hand? I'm tryin' to put together a little work-shack out back. Figured it would be a good way to keep a certain someone from blowing up apartments again. If you don't wanna help, thats fine. Just figured I'd give everyone some warning. Also...if there's anyone around who'd be willing to bring me some extra nails and maybe some water, that'd be great. Rather not stop workin' once I get started...

Oui, from Paris in my world. It is a pleasure to meet you Inspector Zenigata.

Paris? Nice town. Very nice town. Took my daughter there once. Chased Lupin through there...lotsa times.

It's a lovely city, yes. The time I spent there was pleasant.

[She laughs softly, winces at her headache, but manages a polite smile.] He does cause a lot of trouble.

Eh, he's like that. He's not a bad guy. Just...well...what's that American saying? Something about idle hands and devils?

Idle hands are the devil's plaything, I believe. And yes, that would describe him perfectly, wouldn't it? [She huffs a soft laugh, mindful of the migraine, and looks over what he has built so far.]

Do you require any assistance?

[Pops chuckles at this.]

I should be alright, but if you wanna help out, I could use some help measuring some planks out. Should be a pencil, and a measuring tape somewhere over there [He gestures to a toolbox]

But you don't look so hot, you don't have to if you're not feeling good Doc.

Mmm. I would not mind the work. Activity will keep me from thinking about my hangover, yes? [She offers Zenigata a tight smile even as she walks over to the toolbox and rummages around for the aforementioned pencil and measuring tape.]

True enough. Rough morning I take it? Sorry for all the racket.

But if you still wanna help, mark about 5 of those 2x4s every 5 centimeters or so.

Rough weekend. [She offers with a faint shake of her head.] No, no. This needed to be done, and this is my own fault.

[Adele flips through until she finds what she was looking for and kneels by the 2x4's to start measuring and marking them off.]

Fair enough. I won't turn down the help if you're willing.

Wasn't a fun weekend at all, was it? You remember anything that happened?

Not a thing. At first I had assumed that it was an alcohol induced blackout, but that would not cause the entire village to also forget. The missing two days disturb me.

[She settles on her heels and starts marking the boards, double checking before using the pencil.]

Nope, it was definitely those guys. Those Malnosso characters. Suspicious and shady characters if I ever saw.

Why make us forget three days? What was done that must remain secret? It...it makes no sense.

Exactly. Suspicious people commit suspicious behavior. If only those assholes would show their face, I'd arrest them in a second!

By what authority? There is no way to try them, no way to jail them. I admire your dedication, Inspector, but...

[Zenigata shrugs]

The ICPO does afford jurisdiction for the arrest on the charge of crimes against humanity. Human experimentation? Thats pretty bad.

As far as jailing them, we can make a jail, and trying them? Well, I'm a bit old fashioned, should just let em rot in the cell they made.

As far as I am aware, the ICPO doesn't have authority here. I would be far more comfortable if they did, but, sadly, they do not. Even if they have one of their investigators on hand. I am not questioning what it was you would do were we in your home world, but what can be done here.

I think this place is as much their prison as it is ours, yes? At least from what I have come to understand.

[Again, Zenigata shrugs]

I dunno about that. I've been around a while, and I'd like to think that I've learned a thing or two about Malnosso bullshit. They bring us here, they send us home, and they use us to fight their wars, raise their crops, and as guinea pigs in their experiments. Its just how they do things.

I defer to your knowledge and experience on the matter, then. All I have is what I have heard or read, and that does not come close to first hand experience.

What do you know of the Third Party?

Very little, honestly. I've not been out on any missions yet, and I've avoided being drafted since I got here. Mostly just rumors and bogeyman stories though.

Of which there are plenty, and most are not horribly informative. [She frowns.] Do you know who it is I should go to for more information on them?

Not really. Just talkin' to people who've seen them firsthand is about the best you're gonna get.

Such is the way of things. [Adele shrugs and finishes marking off one board, setting it aside to begin on the next.] How long is it that you've been here, if I may ask?

[Zenigata shrugs]

Gettin' on 9 months now.

...how is it that you have learned to cope? What is it you do to keep sane in the midst of all of this?
