He takes a seat, making himself at home in the Inspector's apartment, and pours them both a glass of scotch.]

That's the thing, I wasn't feeling bad before. Now? I'm just irritated at the Malnosso, not about the Shift.

Yeah, something like that. I was a hacker in the Intelligence division, and somehow managed to get the rank of Commander. No crazy Force powers or anything, but very friendly with Luke.

...I'm gonna need to go talk to him.

Man, that musta been something. So you went to his world? See anything cool? Get to meet Yoda? That guy was always my favorite.

[Pops HAS seen Star Wars, he's not a raving fan, but he's familiar enough to be part of the cultural phenomenon.

It was pretty cool, actually! Got to work next to Luke and them, got to be a scoundrel before I joined the Rebellion, crushed on and never got anywhere with Leia...

[He sobers a little after his laughter, hides the cool clarity behind the glass of scotch as he takes a sip.] We did spend the day there too. The missing day. Met Han Solo, took a ride on the Falcon...

Didn't meet Yoda. Luke's from a point that's about eight years after the last film. Yoda's been dead for a long while.

...I wouldn't say I was 'straightened out,' Pops. One thing that's very consistant is the fact that I love my job. Both of them, now. Even if one of them is a lie.

Yea, except you were doing it for the right reasons. I'm not to old to have seen Star Wars and rooted for the Rebels too. Doing something for the good guys instead of for yourself is straightening yourself out.

...I dunno, Pops. I joined for pretty damn selfish reasons, ducked honors and promotions, and generally was a very bad example of a Commander. It was fine for Intelligence, but anywhere else and it wouldn't be tolerated.

The war didn't end after Endor...but. Yeah, the good guys are still fighting the good fight--and winning.

[He sighs, his smile bitter.] I don't mind the memories--it's better than having them erased, like what happened in Thailand a few years back. It just makes a few things complicated here, is all.

Yea, I bet. A whole new skill-set, and remembering all those crazy adventures.

Just don't let it go to your head. Remember, we're still stuck here till we figure a way to get out, or make the Malnosso so annoyed they send us home.

[Another sip. That wasn't quite what he was talking about, but the point was still very valid. While he was calm for the moment, he wasn't certain how long the Commander's influence would last. Eventually he'd get antsy again, but at least he had a broader base now.]

I know. I know, Pops. I've still got it, you know. I'm still me. I was actually planning on seeing if I could salvage something from the Battle Dome, but I no longer have my spiffy little datapad to analyze it with.

They gave me all these tools, and then took them away again. It's a little annoying.

Well, maybe your Jedi buddies can help you get a new datapad, or whatever?

Any idea what happened in the Battle Dome, anyway? I was working late that night.

[He shrugs at this, noncommital.] Maybe. We'll see.

The thing at the Battle Dome was basically the Malnosso attacking themselves. I was stuck in a scenario, so I didn't see what was going on, but they went after that blue man, Bil.

It looks like this passed week was their fault too.

Seriously? That...is completely nuts. But I guess it makes sense. Those guys are all kinds of screwed up. I'm not even sure I wanna know why they did that. But...Bil. That old coot survive? Do we know?

Last I heard, Bil was in really rough condition. I dunno if he survived last week or not.

...It really is nuts, and I was hoping I could learn something from the wreck that would help us take advantage of their internal arguments.

Well, clearly Bil isn't a threat anymore. Not that I trust the guy, but he's definitely not going to be up to no good anytime soon.

That's true. I still would worry about the ones who attacked him, though. Though they didn't attack bystanders or resident combatants with lethal force, that just proves that they have very good programming.

[He cracks a smile, amused.] For all we know they're the T-1000.
