Case File 5 [Action/Voice] This is my Boomshack

[Early in the morning on the 23rd, Zenigata walks outside and into the forest clearing he's been working in for the last few months. The old cop had been carefully constructing a controlled environment for Lupin III to work, as well as a potential shelter for himself should something occur to his own apartment.

Lupin had given him plans, and Pops had followed to the best of his ability, which wasn't inconsiderable. His uncle had taught him how to do most carpentry things, and through his own ingenuity and skill with his hands he'd figured out the rest. Growing up in Post-War Japan had its benefits after all. Men were handy, because if you weren't and something went wrong then you were going to have to spend money that you didn't have to have it repaired. With what he'd had in Luceti, he'd managed to get a workable shack built with some windows,and it was wired for some basic functions, but would need a generator. Instead, some lanterns hung around, which would hopefully provide enough light.

The last thing he had to do was install working locks, which took only a few moments. Pops turned and wiped his hands satisfactorily before pulling out his journal and sending out a broadcast filtered to Lupin,Fujiko, Jigen, and the only person who'd actively helped him work on it, Adele LeBlanc. ]

Ok folks, the Boomshack is officially finished. If you guys wanna come down, I'll give you keys so it can be used for...whatever really. Adele, I'd like to thank you for your help a few months back. I owe you a drink, so c'mon down here and get it whenever you feel like.

[Then Zenigata makes a generic broadcast to the entire village]

Alright everybody, this is Inspector Zenigata Koichi. I wanna apologize for all the racket around Community House 5 lately, I've been finishing up a project but I'm done now. Everything's fine, no problems. And hopefully with my job done, Lupin's more destructive urges can be curved and the community can be a bit safer.

All this work has got me thinking about my childhood. Is there anyone from Japan that grew up after the war? Y'know, the Second World War? I'd like ta know if that happened in any other worlds, and if it did, what was it like? If you aren't from Japan, then...can you tell me what your childhood was like? I'm just curious, gettin' a bit nostalgic in my old age. Lookin' back on it all, I'm wonderin' if I had an abnormal childhood, or a relatively normal one?

[Obviously Pops is asking because he's thinking back to life as a kid. He's worried that he's just accepting Luceti a bit to easy, and...for some reason thinks that his upbringing had made him just deal with the situation the wrong way.]

[No more complaints. He hasn't replenished his supply of liquor to offer, but he brings himself. Only a few days after the mission he's still a little battered, between near Kraken mauling and a sprained AC on his right side. Thanks to Nami's skills, he would only be slinged for a week or so if he was able to contain himself. After the Shift and the Mission? He was longing for little more than a snowcone machine and a six pack of Newcastle.

Dopey as it was, he wanted snowcones and reruns of the A-Team, possibly with the greasiest pizza New York had to offer. He'd get there. Eventually.

The green jacket was thankfully recovered after the mission, and was currently slung over his shoulders. He just didn't care anymore.]

Oi! Pops! That's pretty nice work you've done here.

[The old cop is waiting, sitting down on the wooden steps into the shack, his trenchcoat draped over one of the railings and his hat resting on his lap. His expression is fairly neutral, he's glad to see his rival made it back from the mission alive, but he's not pleased to see the injuries.

It was kind of weird seeing the thief with a war-wound, but after the events that had occurred earlier in the month, Zenigata had high hopes for Lupin maybe making some sort of moral turnaround. He'd certainly prayed enough for it.]

Yep. Just like my uncle taught me as a kid. What happened to you? Catch a spear?

Not quite. [beat.] Met an angry Kraken and got thrown into a wall. Twice. [He chuckles at this.] It was insane, but not as bad as Cagliostro.

[He has his scars, Pops. At least this one wouldn't leave any to remind him of the craziness. He just had a couple of new friends, extra ammo, and a better understanding of the world they were in.]

You...fighting a Kraken? Aren't you afraid of octopus and squid?

[Zenigata's tone is amused, remembering the first time he'd discovered that particular weakness]

Man, that must have been something to see. A big, angry squid smacking you around. You kill it?

I couldn't do anything-- my shots were nothing and it smacked me around, remember? [He frowned muscles tensing at the very memory of it. It wasn't one he wanted to think about anytime soon.] Law was the one who smacked it around and probably killed it. Probably.

Hard to say with something that big.

Fair enough. How big did you say it was?

[Law's a name he's heard from Smoker...but he's never met the guy]

Law...thats the guy from Smoker's world yea? What sorta crazy messed up super-powers does he have?

...It was big enough to take down the ship if it wanted, Pops. [he sighs.] I was belowdecks when Law really went after it, but if I'm understanding it correctly...

Law can stop things from moving and shred them with his mind. [A shudder.] Thank god he's a pretty calm guy, because he would be terrifying to have as an enemy!

Wow, that does sound scarier, even more than Goemon. Does Law need a weapon to do any of this?

--I didn't see it myself, but from what I heard? Not necessarily.

Thats really scary then. Remind me to not piss this guy off!

That's what I'm asking you to remind me of~

Then we'll have to remember this together. Geez, what a scary guy.

Why do you think I'm thanking any gods that care to listen for his coolness? We'd all be in trouble otherwise!

Fair enough. Learn anything interesting on the mission?

You mean, aside from the fact that the Third Party is more terrifying than the T-1000, Krakens make terrible calamari, and that we're probably the most combat ready of the enclosures on this planet? Not much.

The Malnosso people didn't care to talk to us, and the volunteers from other enclosures were tired and jaded...and not very good at surviving.

Heh, we are the most combat ready place? Really? Hell, I didn't know there were even other enclosures.

Yeah. Our particular one is called Luceti, it's not the name of this...planet. Whatever it is. Comparing the volunteers on the ship that weren't from this place to even people just down in the village, there's a big difference. They probably wouldn't even know how to handle half of the stuff you and I have seen!

Really? So...just ordinary folks? Thats kinda weird. Were they born on...whatever planet this is?

Not a clue. It's best to assume that they're like us and, aside from funky looking hair and skin, they're pretty normal-ish.

It is very wierd. Makes me wonder about the full state of affairs in this place.

Yea, no kiddin'. Thats real messed up. The more I hear, the more anxious I am to get the hell out of here.

Any more thoughts on that?

Unfortunately? None. The more I learn, the more insane this place starts to look!
