Case File 02 [Voice/Action, Early evening]

[Zenigata has spent the better part of the last month stalking around the village, looking surly and generally pretty cranky.  Anyone who tries to bother him was pretty much ignored, as the Inspector seemed somewhat absorbed in his own thoughts.  Today, however, is a little bit different.  He's finally over his...brooding and grumbling and seems to have flopped down outside his apartment building in the early evening.  Anyone who happens by can see that he's taken a bit of booze from one of the bars, and is just kind of flopped down, staring off into the sky with a vaguely thoughtful expression.  Periodically, he rambles into the journal to nobody in particular, and he seems receptive to anyone who happens to come by, offering booze to adults]

Y'know, its times like this where I wonder why I became a cop in the first place.  I mean, yea, I'm good at it and all, but that doesn't make it an easy job.  I work hard, every goddamn day to keep jerks and thugs off the street, and I don't get a lick of thanks from anyone.  Hell, most people back home laugh at us cops, think we are all good for nothin' lardasses who like eatin' donuts and harassing people for no good reason.  But here, theres...no real need for me ta be a cop.  Kinda gets me thinkin' about all the stuff I coulda done with myself besides bein' the best damn cop Interpol has.  Coulda been a better husband, coulda taken better care of Toshiko, and been a better grandad too.  Bah...

And thats another thing.  Its damn weird being one place for so long.  How do you people do it?  Its kinda freakin' me out, not running off after Lupin every week, and actually having...a house instead of a hotel room.  I have a feeling I should start decorating or something, and having more food around than ramen and booze.

Nothing is stopping you from changing your job here. And we all could have been a lot of things.

Yea...I guess thats true. But...when I get back I can't just...y'know...stop being a policeman. Hell, I've been a cop for nearly 25 years. All those instincts don't just fade away.
shadedsunlight: (Have some composure)

Then you take your instincts and everything you've learned on the job and adapt them to something new. Got skills you can teach? Yeah them. Have something new you've always wanted to try? Try it.

[He sounds like he's slightly sobered up...slightly]
Eh? Teach? I...guess...I could do that. Could give lessons on handcuffing scumbags from a distance. I guess...I just never thought I'd be stuck in a place where being a cop is pointless, and where I'd actually be...y'know...settled down.

[a pause, then the satisfied grunt of a man drinking a shot of something strong]

Who the heck are you anyway?
shadedsunlight: (Tell the suits that I had my reasons)

Not necessarily pointless. No, you probably won't be chasing down criminals left and writing and dolling out citations, but there's still people to help and protect here. Unless you didn't become a cop to do that.

Ginia.

'course I became a cop ta help people. Whats the point of being one if you don't do your damn job? Serve and Protect, yea? I mean, I'm with Interpol, so I gotta deal with all kinds a real wackos. Like this one bastard who was tryin' ta make the Leaning Tower sink into the ground with some weird earthquake machine. I tell ya though, there are some real incompetents on the force these days though...

[Another drink]

Oh. and...I'm *hic* Zenigata.

I probably don't need to tell you how many people don't do their job or aren't on the force to serve and protect. And that sounds like quite the story. How'd that turn out?

[Voice]

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea...you're right. I've hauled in quite a few dirty cops over the years. Punks, just using the job to get drugs and other bullshit like that. Then there are those brutality cases in America. Man, it makes me glad I joined the force in Japan.

Oh, that wacko doctor? Well, I was chasing Lupin, and somehow that bastard ended up in his lab. Not real sure why, though. Anyway, I ended up nabbing the doctor, figured he was more dangerous than Lupin at the time...

Picking up new hobbies helps. Perhaps try a new routine or weapon at the Battle Dome, or stop by the open courses at the school? Or take advantage of the warm weather while we still have it, and an outdoors activity instead.

[Comes and sits down next to him. Wow his two best friends are super drunks. This either bodes well for him in comparison, or really badly.]

For justice. And you should probably have a little less booze.

Hmm...that is an idea. A hobby...geez, I never figured I'd find myself with time for an actual hobby...

Who is Lupin? You've mentioned him a few times now.

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea...justice. But...is there really any justice in this place?

Lupin? Lupin is a thief, a bastard, and a world-class troublemaker! A real pain my ass. He's the only crook who's ever gotten away from me, and I'm gonna get him one day, and toss his skinny behind in jail.
shadedsunlight: (I was trying to remember your name)

Always the one that got away. Catching him would be the pinnacle of your career?

Re: [Written]

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Its my life's purpose, catching that guy. He's a total jerk I tell ya. I mean, once he actually STOLE the statue of Jesus in Rio!
shadedsunlight: (So she said what's the problem baby)

Sounds like quite the heist. How did he manage that?

[Voice]

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
A helicopter, some heavy duty wires, and a group of those incompetent police we were talking about before. More concerned with money and fancy technology than good detective work.

[He seems to have cooled it a bit with the booze, his voice clearing up a little bit]
shadedsunlight: (It feels good to feel this way)

Wow. Impressive. [A good heist can always be appreciated.]

Was the statue recovered and return?

[Voice]

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea, you think it'd be easy to fence a UNESCO landmark? I think Lupin just does stuff like that to piss me off.
shadedsunlight: (I swear I told you the truth)

Sounds like you two have quite the rivalry going on.

[Voice]

[identity profile] greatinspector.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Rivalry eh. Yea, something like that. That bastard is always coming up with insane stunts and getting away. But really, I dunno what I'd do if I really got him. [The liquor is DEFINITELY letting some of his true feelings come out...]

[identity profile] samurinjathief.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Doing good and keeping the peace is its own reward. You should fulfill your duty because it is right, not because you seek appreciation.

Pinnacle of your career. Unless you found someone else to chase, and even then it wouldn't be the same, you'd be hard pressed to find a way to top that.

Thats pretty funny coming from you, Goemon. But yea, I guess you're right. I guess more what I'm gettin' at is, y'know, is it really my duty anymore? I don't think I have justidiction here.
